At the peremptory request and desire of a large majority of the citizens of these United States, I, Joshua Norton, declare and proclaim myself Emperor of these United States; and in virtue of the authority thereby in me vested, do hereby order and direct the representatives of the different States of the Union to assemble in Musical Hall, of this city, on the 1st day of Feb. next, then and there to make such alterations in the existing laws of the Union as may ameliorate the evils under which the country is laboring, and thereby cause confidence to exist, both at home and abroad, in our stability and integrity.

Furthermore, being desirous of allaying the dissensions of party strife now existing within our realm, I do hereby dissolve and abolish the Democratic and Republican parties, and also do hereby decree the disfranchisement and imprisonment, for not more than 10, nor less than five, years, to all persons leading to any violation of this our imperial decree.

NORTON I, Emperor of the United States and Protector of Mexico.

Actually, Reichspresident and War Ubergeneral Hindenburg is the asshole. First he invents the "stabbed in the back" legend to save his own ass, then he invests the "little bohemian corporal" with chancellor powers being a bit senile and all that. The Reichtagsbrand (which was NOT a Nazi setup) just railroaded the Nazi power takeover.

So, who can better set an raging fire to a large building? A single, disturbed Dutch red who's probably had his head beaten so much by brownshirts with truncheons he can't put together two coherent thoughts at his trial, as the Nazis said, or a squad of state agents who were unmonitored, unregulated, and had access to the supplies necessary.

While I seriously, seriously doubt Bush was responsible for 9/11, it's pretty obvious who started the Reichstag Fire--and it did stand empty for the entirety of the war. They're too different things.

Plus, that would involve assuming Bush could mastermind something that elaborate and complex. Bullshit.

Robert O. Paxton, in "The Anatomy of Fascism" writes:

"It was long believed that the Nazis themselves set the fire and them framed a dim-witted Dutch communist youth found on the premises, Marinus van der Lubbe, in order to persuade the public to accept extreme anticommunist measures. Today most historians believe that van der Lubbe really lit the fire, and that Hitler and his associates, taken by surprise, really believed a communist coup had begun. Enough Germans shared their panic to give the Nazis almost unlimited leeway."

Clearly he couldn't. But the people behind him (um... his dad maybe?) are a lot smarter than he is obviously.

THE first documentary evidence has emerged to support the view that the Nazis started the 1933 Reichstag fire that Hitler used as a pretext to establish a dictatorship.

While historians have agreed that there is no substance to Nazi claims that German Communists were to blame for the blaze, there has also been a lack of evidence to back the widely held belief that Hitler's supporters burnt down the parliament building in Berlin.

After poring over 50,000 pages of hitherto unexamined documents from former East German and Soviet archives, four leading German historians have now concluded that the fire was a Nazi plot. Marinus van der Lubbe, 24, a pro-Communist Dutch labourer, was beheaded by the Nazis after admitting that he started the blaze alone to encourage a workers' uprising.

Germany is not a reliable source of 1933-1945 history.
They can put people in jail for saying anything that doesn't agree with the "Hitler killed 6 million jews and was a terrible monster" theory.
